Behind every dairy product is cruelty and exploitation. Like all mammals, cows must give birth in order to produce milk. Like human mothers, they carry their babies for nine months, then begin to lactate for the sole purpose of nourishing their young. After giving birth, a strong bond instantly forms between mother and calf. If given the chance, a mother cow would nurture and protect her calf. But their calves are taken from them so that humans can consume mothers’ milk. This causes both cows and calves extreme distress. Mother cows have been known to cry out for days after their babies are stolen from them. Cows lactate for approximately 10 months before being forcibly and repeatedly inseminated again, continuing the cycle. Most dairy cows’ overworked bodies begin producing less milk at around 4 to 5 years of age, at which point they are slaughtered. In natural conditions, cows can live 20 to 25 years. By continuing to consume dairy products, humans are supporting a lifetime of suffering for these sensitive, intelligent animals.

For Our Planet
It turns out the white stuff isn't all that green. The dairy industry is responsible for an enormous amount of environmental damage resulting from the land and energy required to produce cattle feed, fresh water use, methane gases, and excrement.
Methane is an extremely troubling green house gas - in fact, it traps 100 times more heat into the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. A fracking well contributes 1/10th the amount of methane that a single dairy farm produces, everyday.
The global water footprint of animal agriculture is 2,422 billion cubic meters of water, that's 1/4th of the total global water footprint. The dairy industry is responsible for 19% of this water use. Water is required for cleaning facilities, hydrating cows and growing their food.
The animal agriculture industry as a whole has been linked to climate change, ocean dead zones, the depletion of fisheries, species extinction and deforestation. Our demand for and reliance on animal products is hurting our planet.
